This is a day for people of all levels of experience. Our teachers will guide the beginners; more experienced artists can work in groups or by themselves. O R2.2 Hello. My name's Theo Martin, and I'm going to talk to you today about three of my paintings that are here at the Skylight Gallery. They're here for six weeks, then they'll be going to a permanent collection in a gallery in Tokyo, Japan. I don't usually speak in public, but the owners of the Skylight Gallery have asked me two or three times to give a short presentation, so here I am today. And it will be a short presentation, I promise you! I have no intention of talking to you for hours and hours about my paintings! I'll start with this painting, 'Forest Green (One),. I painted it about two years ago from memory. When I was a boy I used to love a place called Dean Forest. I hadn't thought about Dean Forest for years. Then, one day a few years ago, I was walking in a wood in Canada and vivid memories of Dean Forest suddenly came back to me. 'As soon as I get back to my studio I'm going to paint Dean Forest; I thought. And that's exactly what I did. I didn't use photos. I just painted my memories onto the paper. I've painted about fifteen other paintings of Dean Forest, but this one is my favourite. This next painting is called 'Girl: It's a painting of my daughter Libby. I did it about 20 years ago, when Libby was six years old. She was sleeping on the sofa and I decided to paint her. Ten minutes later she woke up, got off the sofa and left the room. The moment had gone! But I finished the painting in the studio. I'd taken lots of photos of Libby, so I had pictures that I could work from. Finally, I'll say a few words about this picture, 'Dots and Lines: I painted this w hen I was at Art School more than 30 years ago. It stayed in a cupboard for many years, but recently it's become one of my most famous pieces of work. When it's in the gallery in Tokyo it will have been in galleries in eighteen different countries. I'll tell you some facts about 'Dots and Lines'. It weighs 76kg. It has 50,000 red dots on it and 100,000 black lines. And I'll tell you a secret, too - I hate it! But other people like it, it seems.
