A. CẤU TẠO
Cấu tạo danh động từ hoàn toàn giống như động tính từ hiện tại. Danh động từ có những dạng ghép, ví
dụ (động từ to do):
Dạng chung :doing
Thụ động :being done
Hoàn thành :having done
Hoàn thành thụ động :having been done

B. CÁCH DÙNG CƠ BẢN

1. Làm chủ ngữ
Working in the these conditions is a pleasure.
Swimming against the current was difficult.

2. Làm bổ ngữ
Seeing is believing.
Her aim is learning English

3. Làm tân ngữ gián tiếp
You must avoid making mistakes.
Your hair needs cutting.
I regret having said this to her.

4. Sau giới từ (dù trước
giới từ là động từ, danh từ
hay tính từ
I thought of going to see my uncle today.
He left without saying a word.
There was little hope of reaching home at noon.
He was afraid of being punished.
Before starting, you should get everything ready.

C. MỘT SỐ ĐẶC ĐIỂM
1. Động từ vừa mang tính chất danh từ vừa mang tính chất động từ. Tính chất động từ thể hiện rõ ở
hai điểm.
a. Có thể có tân ngữ trực tiếp
Ex: I remember seeing him.
b. Có thể có phó từ đi kèm
Ex: He likes driving fast.
I was surprised at his speaking English so fluently.
2. Tính chất danh từ thể hiện rõ ở trong cách dùng như trong bảng trên và ở một điểm nữa là có thể
dùng tính từ sở hữu hay danh từ ở cách sở hữu trước một động danh từ:
Ex: Please excuse my interrupting you.
3. Có một số động từ và cụm từ luôn luôn đòi hỏi động danh từ đi sau
Ex: approve of, apologize for, believe in, count on, care for, complain of, confess to, consist of, depend on,
dream of, end in, give up, forget about, go back to, hesitate about, insist on, keep on, lead to, long for,

responsible for, scared at, sick of, skilled at, slow in, sorry for, successful in,……

D. LUYỆN TẬP
Đổi những động từ trong ngoặc sang dạng động danh từ thích hợp:
1.Thank you for (lend) us the book.
2.We shall enjoy (read) it.
3.It has stopped (rain).
4.I hate (go) out in the rain.
5.I can’t help (wonder) whether we should risk (go) without our raincoats.
6.My uncle has given up (smoke) and now prefer (eat) sweets.
7.I suggest (do) more on the gerund next time.
8.Excuse me for (give) you so much trouble.
9.You never mentioned (speak) to them on the subject.
10. He was proud of (award) the prize (Tự hào được giải thưởng).
11. I don’t remember ever (see) you.
12. He was quite serious in (say) that he was leaving the place for good.
13. After (examine) by the doctor, the young man was admitted to the sports club (sau khi được bác sĩ khám).
14. She reproached me for not (keep) my promise (trách tôi không giữ lời hứa).
15. Don’t delay you (send) in of the application form (đừng trì hoãn việc anh nộp đơn xin).
16. He doesn’t deny his (take) part in the plot.
17. I had to postpone my (listen) to his plans to a later date.
18. Out friend objected to out (leave) so soon (phản đối việc chúng tôi ra về sớm).
19. We are quite used to William’s (grumble) (quen với việc William càu nhàu).
20. They are looking forward to Mary’s (come) (mong đợi cô Marry đến).
