Unit 1 LOCAL ENVIRONMENT WEEK 1 A THEORY: LANGUAGE KNOWLEDGE  PRONUNCIATION Các nguyên tắắc cơ bản của việc nhấắn trọng ấm trong cấu như sau: - Từ thuộc vềề mặt nội dung (content word): được nhấấn trọng ấm Những từ mang nghĩa Ví dụ Verb play; love, give, employ, talk, listen, etc. Noun table, book, car, music, desk, etc. Adjective small, big, hot, cold, good, interestng, clever, etc. Adverb loudly, quietly, quickly, loudly, never, etc. Auxiliary verb (negative) isn't, doesn't, don't, can't, aren't, etc. Pronoun demonstrative this, that, those, these, etc. Wh-question when, why, how, who, which, where, etc. - Từ thuộc vềề mặt cấấu trúc (empty word): không được nhấấn trọng ấm Những từ đúng vêề mặt cấắu trúc Ví dụ Subject pronoun I, you, we, they, he, she, it Preposition on, at, into, of, about, before, afer, etc. Article a, an, the Connective words and, but, because, although, so, however, etc. Modal verb can, may, might, would, could, should, must, etc ‘to be’ am, is, are, was, were  GRAMMAR Định nghĩa cấu phức Cấu phức (complex sentence) là cấu có một mệnh đềề độc lập (independent clause) và một hoặc nhiềều hơn một mệnh đềề phụ thuộc (dependent clause) Ví dụ: She had to walk a long street before she could get to her favourite shop. Mệnh đềề độc lập là (independent clause): She had to walk a long street Mệnh đềề phụ thuộc là (dependent clause): before she could get to her favourite shop. Một sốắ dạng cấu phức thống dụng: Cấu phức có chứa mệnh đêề trạng ngữ/ phó từ (adverbial clause). - Mệnh đềề trạng ngữ chỉ sự tương phản bắất đấều bởi liền từ although, though, hoặc even though. Mệnh đềề này thể hiện những kềất quả không mong muôấn. Ví dụ: Although she was tired, she fnished knitng the scarf for her dad. Mặc dù mệt nhưng cô ây vâẫn hoàn thành việc đan khăn cho bôố mình. - Mệnh đềề trạng ngữ chỉ mục đích bắất đấều bắềng liềền từ so that hoặc in order that. Mệnh đềề này thể hiện mục đích của hành động trong mệnh đềề độc lập. Ví dụ: The artisan moulded the clay so that he could make a mask. Người thợ thủ công nặn đâốt sét để có thể tạo ra một cái mặt nạ. - Mệnh đềề trạng ngữ để chỉ ra nguyên nhân của vấấn đềề bắất đấều bởi liền từ because; since hoặc as. Mệnh đềề này trả lời cho cấu hỏi “Tại sao”. Ví dụ: Because/Since the water is polluted, the fsh are dead. Cá chếốt vì nước bị ô nhiếẫm. Chú ý: Cấu phức có chứa dạng “mệnh đêề rút gọn” (incomplete/ elliptical clauses). Ví dụ: Ví dụ 1: The coach could see the game was lost. Ví dụ 2: Afer studying for his test, he watched television. Trong ví dụ đấều tiền, “that” - là dấấu hiệu của mệnh đềề danh từ đã bị lược bỏ, mệnh đềề đấềy đủ là: “that the game was lost”. Trong ví dụ thứ hai chúng ta có thể hiểu ý đấềy đủ là : “Afer he studied for his test.” Cấu phức có chứa dạng mệnh đêề quan hệ (relative clause) (xem thêm phấền: mệnh đêề quan hệ) Chú ý: Đặt dấắu phẩy cấu trong cấu phức: Cấu phức phải có một mệnh đềề độc lập và ít nhấất một mệnh đềề phụ thuộc. Mệnh đềề phụ thuộc này có thể ở đấều cấu, giữa cấu hoặc cuôấi cấu. Nềấu mệnh đềề phụ thuộc đứng đấều cấu (trước mệnh đềề độc lập) thì dấấu phẩy được đặt giữa hai mệnh đềề, nềấu ngược lại thì không có dấấu phẩy giữa hai mệnh đềề. Ví dụ: Although the dog looked like a mongrel, It was actually a very rare and expensive dog. The dog, although it looked like a mongrel, was actually a very rare and expensive dog.
